Personally I think that only when Americans pay as much attention to the world as the world pays to America, then maybe the world won't be as angry at us.

Even now Americans are afforded the luxury of paying scant attention to anything beyond the U.S. because America is both vast enough that people need never even leave their state in their lifetime, and powerful enough that worldly ignorance and apathy are commonplace.

Perhaps with America slowly admitting that other countries exist, perhaps Americans will also realize this fact. We can't ask for forgiveness until we recognize that other countries are out there, I think. Like apologizing to a family member whom we've ignored for years on end. Forgiveness probably won't come easily, but I also think that every other country on this planet is full of faults like America is, and it would really be something of a miracle if the world recognized this.

Also, if you're going to be putting Mandarin then can you put the inflections for the part of "How I think it sounds"? I want to learn too.

Interesting. Are the countries gathering to actually do something or just put up a front that they are? Getting a group of people to do something is difficult; getting a group of people to do something they don't feel is necessary is extremely difficult; getting the world to actually do something to stop a threat that a lot of people don't think exists is nearly impossible. So I'll be interested to see if the meeting actually does something or if it's just to look nice printed there in our history. The "Hey, We Tried" Protocol.

Anyway I also happen to think that Vonnegut was an extremely pessimistic man, so him saying it's over is something I don't take to heart. I think that if people actually do decide to do something, then we can fix the problem. But that will take a miracle. So I would like to say I think a miracle will happen somehow. There are a lot of people who say "Just tell me what I can do to fix it and I'll do it." I would like to believe that.

Yeah the news here has been covering the strangeness of her and her family for a while. I think the news here is extremely unhappy with the choice of Hatoyama as the new prime minister. This morning they showed people mourning Aso leaving.
